From the Society for the Protection of the Unborn Child (SPUC) 'The Society has launched a petition calling on the Home Secretary to oppose any moves to restrict peaceful pro-life citizens' freedom of expression and freedom to pray outside abortion centres. Moves are being made around Britain to prevent this taking place, together with offering support to women who may not want to proceed with an abortion. Vulnerable women who come under pressure to abort their babies will be denied a quiet word of support from peaceful pro-life citizens. Please support this petition. Petition forms are available at the back of church, or you can sign the petition online at :

Celebrate Conference Catherine Richardson writes 'This is to take place 2nd-3rd June at St.Benedict's School, Bury St.Edmunds. A chance to celebrate your faith in a relaxed atmosphere with others. For all ages, there will be streams for children & young people to have their own appropriate activities to learn about their faith and have fun, & for adults there will be talks from international speakers, and workshops. Mass will be celebrated on both days with music from a talented group of musicians, One Hope Project. Bishop Alan joins us one day to celebrate Mass, and likes to visit the streams and workshops & to chat to people. He is very enthusiastic about the Conference! For more information visit the website celebrateconference.org and click on 'East Anglia' or speak to David or Catherine Richardson. Forms at back of church.

RISEN AND ASCENDED

After he rose from the dead early on the first Easter Sunday, Jesus appeared to his disciples over the next forty days, to different individuals and groups and in different places, so that there could be no doubt at all that he was indeed alive again. And then after the forty days were accomplished, Jesus was taken up into heaven, returning to the glory of the Father. This, his Ascension, Holy Church celebrates solemnly as a day of triumph. As we sing in a familiar hymn, Jesus is 'risen, ascended, glorified'. As the writer of the Letter to the Hebrews says, he has entered the Father's presence as our great High Priest, there for ever to offer his saving work as the means of our reconciliation with the Father. The Acension marks the end of Our Lord's incarnate ministry amongst us here on earth, and the beginning of his perpetual priestly ministry in Heaven. So important and joyful is this event, that the Church bids all of its children come together to celebrate. Hence Ascension Day, this Thursday, is a Holy Day of Obligation, when all of us must be at Mass.
